From The Kitchen Table To Now
The VOLO story begins in 1997 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Everett Bracken was starting his next chapter after serving in the U.S. Army's Aviation Branch and building a proprietary database of extraordinary female leaders while holding a 'day job' at an NYSE corporation, all before Google was a thing.

Everett started the business in their exterior garage. However, the garage wasn’t insulated, and the freezing temperatures made it an unsuitable workplace. He attempted to negotiate with his wife to convert a section of the house into an office but lost the negotiation and was only allowed to use a section of the kitchen table.

Since Everett often drove by Miller Brewing Company's (MBCo) headquarters and had friends working there while living in Milwaukee, he hustled his way into a meeting with their Vice President of Human Resources. At the time, MBCo struggled to identify a large pool of high-performing diverse (specifically, female) talent in the male-dominated beer industry. In this first meeting on a Monday, he signed their contract and was given a recruitment assignment. By 8:00 AM the next day, he shared a pool of high-performing, female candidates and scheduled onsite interviews for that Friday. The leadership team loved the talent pool and made an offer before the candidate flew home.

Over the next few years, VOLO secured funding from family members, hired a few employees and contractors, and listened to its clients' leadership teams. These teams guided the company in addressing global business needs, including adding outplacement services, contract labor, and expanding into international recruiting. VOLO specifically targeted regions such as:

-
Asia-Pacific: Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam
-
Europe: England, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, and Ukraine (Note: Russia was included initially but stopped after the war)
-
Latin America: Brazil and Mexico

After winning a local small business award for his veteran-owned enterprise, VOLO caught the attention of U.S. government small business development offices. You might recognize these agencies.
The next chapter is being written now: transitioning the business to the next generation of family members, accepting investment funding to help it grow, or both.
